Player Profile: Ian Thoroughgood

Profile by Tim Muttukumaru

I.A.M. Thoroughlygoodateverything is a stalwart of numerous cricket teams. We are hoping to tempt the newlywed Thoroughly down from sunny Suffolk for a few games in 2009. Ex-Christ's captain and current 2nd XI vice captain at Hadleigh CC, Ian is an incredibly valuable member of any side of which he is a member.

A technically sound batsman, Ian suffers from the occasional lapse in concentration but is generally a very competent performer. Usually plays as a middle order run-gatherer rather than boundary-smasher, Ian always keeps the score ticking over with timing, placement and a sharp eye for a run.

As a bowler, Ian has two 'varieties'. One is to open the bowling, "wobble" it around a bit and seek the outside edge. The other is to come on second change, lob up some "off spinners" and hope the batsman takes the bait. Either way, he's got bags of experience and is able to buy wickets when required.

Captain Fantastic has led many a side and only a ridiculous batting collapse prevented progress in 2004 Cuppers (particular culpability should be attributed to Messrs Mostofi, Watson and Muttukumaru). Nevertheless, he is an astute leader and usually makes the right calls.

An outstanding fielder, the Little Blond Boy stands courageously at square leg, ever-ready to dash to the right or left. If he does have a weakness in this department, it's the excpetionally high standards he sets for himself.
