Profile by Tim Muttukumaru
Edmund Winston Perks, raised in the cricketing heartland that is Derbyshire, is a NTMCC stalwart with impeccable credentials. A considered approach to the crease is usually followed by fast/medium deliveries. Swing is Perksy's weapon of choice and many commentators have likened him to a young Peter Such. Regrettably, a record 15,000 leg side deliveries against Gray's Inn in 2003 led to premature retirement from the game (and severe bruising to the wicketkeeper's left side), but a subsequent re-emergence at NTMCC has been greeted by fans across the globe with gleeful anticipation.
At Christ's, Perksy's initial promise led to a place in the 2001 Cuppers side which heroically reached the final against St John's. With the opposition reeling at 74-7, Christ's were unable to press home their advantage and eventually succumbed to a late batting collapse themselves.
Nevertheless, Ed brings valuable experience and leadership to any side in which he plays. At home on seemingly any sporting field, Perksy's war cry of "easy out" (translation: impossible) is often deployed to no particular effect whatsoever.
Personally I've never seen Ed batting. Scouting reports indicate that he's calm, assured and technically correct. This measured approach will be a nice contrast with the manic, frenzied approach of some of his middle order colleagues at NTMCC.
