Profile by Tim Muttukumaru
Cyrus "The Virus" Azarmgin was the big scientific discovery of 2008, bringing as he did a number of strains of killer deliveries, most of which have no known cure. Deployment of traditional antiviral treatments proved ineffective against the Terror from Tehran (via France) and batsmen across the capital have been facing up to the gloomy prospect of another epidemic in 2009.
Created with an almost pathological hatred of batsmen, The Virus usually rampages into the bowler's crease and unleashes a plague of epic proportions on opposition openers. Is there no stopping this raging pandemic? Dr Thomas Stuttaford of The Times said in a recent interview, "This new virus evolved on the shores of the Caspian Sea but we've been unable to unlock its unique genetic code. There's no cure so far as we know: I advise all batsmen to scream loudly and run away."
Of course, the challenge for Cyrus and NTMCC fielders in 2009 will be to up the biohazard warning to the next level. Is The Virus just a single celled organism or can he mutate into multiple strains? Is this superbug's unique brand of germ warfare effective in the post-penicillin world?
In 2009, we hope to find the answers to all these questions.
