1.1 Icon: Jaap Haartsen
My Old New Media Icon is Jaap Haartsen. He designed a Bluetooth radio system (in those days called MCLink) for worldwide usage. Jaap Haarsten invented in 1994 the Bluetooth technology, which allows devices to communicate through a radio connection. The arrival of Bluetooth was innovative and ubiquitous especially in the technology. From that moment cables were not necessary anymore for communication between (portable) devices. Nowadays, we use Bluetooth almost every day, for example printers, watches, playing music in cars, headphones. The possibilities Bluetooth gives us nowadays all started by the invention from Jaap Haartsen.
