1.3 Rewind: Big-character posters, Black-and-white photograph etc.

Big-character posters

Extracted from Explorations 2016 (Lab 1 & 2)

For some personal reasons, I was attracted immediately when I saw these familiar big-character posters.

It's quite impressive if we stand in a modern perspective to look at these pictures. They were created in order to inspire collective potentials, particularly making a large group of population to trust someone. It sounds like quite a religious behaviour, but instead, it's a nationalistic representation.

The idea we could get from the posters was pretty simple, but the power it brought out was super strong.

Black-and-white photograph

The black and white photograph remains its meanings. And there's still a large group of people who have a unique interest in black-and-white photos today.

In a number of cases, only if merely containing black and white colour, an image could express the exact meaning creators expected. A multiple colour picture could have more diversity but abandons seriousness and monotony as well, in particular when it comes to a historical topic. The debate between colourfulness and black-and-white has evolved into an artistic question instead of a technical question.

Similar to the SAM robot.

Remind me of the corona-virus spread model.
