1.4 Tribute: ButtonSweeper

My tribute to old (new) media is inspired by the first personal computer called altair 8800.

This computer had to be programmed in binary by toggling switches and pressing buttons which was of course very cumbersome and not very transparant. I started to think about how different computers would be if we still would use these methods to work on our computers in the current day. This in turn made me think of another classic new media artifact, minesweeper. This game was created in the 60's and first got shipped with a windows OS in 1990. By combining these two technologies, I want to give the user a feeling of what using a computer in a world where they have to be programmed by switches to follow a command, would feel like. We've come very far when it comes to the usability of computers but this first layer of binary (which nowadays is completely abstracted away) is still there at the core of the machine. In a way this work shows our journey with personal computers from the start towards the current day.
