Xylota sylvarum

Size: Wing length 8-12mm
Species account: A larger and distinctive species, which is considerably bulkier in appearance than the delicate Xylota segnis. The abdomen is mostly dark with a conspicuous covering of dense golden hairs at the tip. The rare Xylota xanthocnema is very similar, but has entirely pale hind tibia, whereas sylvarum has the distal half darkened (although this can be obscured at certain angles by pale hairs.
