Size: 6.5-9.5mm
Species account: A common and distinctive hoverfly, which is one of the characteristic spring species, although individuals may be seen throughout the summer. The bold thoracic stripes and unique forward slanting bars on the abdomen mean that it is instantly recognisable in the field.
