Dasysyrphus

The members of this genus have a variety of abdominal markings, which make them easily recognisable. Dasysyrphus albostriatus is a common spring species whilst the other species in the genus are scarcer if no less distinctive.

Dasysyrphus friuliensis - Scarce northern species with strongly hooked bars on tergites 3 and 4 with reach the margins. All black antennae.

Dasysyrphus pinastri - Widespread species with hooked bars on tergites 3 and 4 which do not reach the margins

Dasysyrphus tricinctus - Widespread species with distinctive pattern of widely interrupted straight bars on tergites 2 and 4 and narrowly interrupted straight bar on tergite 3
