Scaeva

The two species in the genus Scaeva which occur regularly occur in the UK are large and distinctive hoverflies, with lunulate bands on the abdomen. The creamy white markings of Scaeva pyrastri are unlikely to confused with any other species, whereas the yellower markings of Scaeva selenitica could be confused with those of Eupeodes luniger.
