Short-winged Conehead
Habitat: Saltmarsh, wetlands.
Size: 11-18mm
Species account: Formerly a scarce southern species of coastal saltmarsh, the sh0rt-winged conehead has undergone a remarkable range expansion in the last decade, and can now be found throughout England and Wales. As the name suggests this is a short-winged species, and this is the main distinguishing character from the similar long-winged Conehead, although a long winged form can occur. Females can still be distinguished by their curved ovipositors (straight in the long-winged conehead)
