Leucozona lucorum

Habitat: Areas with lush vegetation, especially damp woodland

Species account: A large and distinctive species, unlikely to be confused with any other British hoverflies. The extensive dark cloud on the wing, combined with the large white markings on the abdomen make Leucozona lucorum readily recognisable in the field. Flies from May to August, being most abundant at the start of this period.
