Lesser Marsh Grasshopper - Chorthippus albomarginatus
Habitat: Grassland
Size: 16-22mm
Species account: Despite the name, the Lesser Marsh Grasshopper is found in both wet and dry areas. The parallel sided keels on the pronotum mean that the only risk of confusion is with the meadow grasshopper. The Lesser Marsh Grasshopper is always fully winged and capable of flight, and females have a distinct white line along the edge of the wing. In general it is a more drab species than the meadow grasshopper, and less prone to unusual colour morphs. The song is a dry rattle about a second in duration.
