Eristalis horticola

Habitat: Open habitats near bushes or trees

Size: Wing length 8-11.5mm

Species account: Widespread but less common than the similar Eristalis arbustorum and interruptus. Unlike those species there is a diffusely darkened area on the wing. Always has a distinct black stripe on the face, further distinguishing from arbustorum. Eristalis rupium shares the wing characteristic, but has a pale hind basal tarsal segment and is restricted to the north and west. Flies April to October.
