I have never been a big fan of pulled pork, but this one is really good! The Dr. Pepper makes it very tender and just sweet enough. Serve it with a side of mac & cheese and you've got a perfect Sunday afternoon football watchin' meal!
One 5 lb. pork butt
1 tsp. each - garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika
1/2 tsp. each - kosher salt, fresh ground black pepper
3 c. Dr. Pepper
3 c. of your favorite barbecue sauce
Combine spices in a small bowl and mix well. Rub onto pork and place in crockpot. Pour soda over pork. Cook on low for 5 - 7 hours until pork is tender and pulls apart easily.
Drain completely, remove the fat, and shred using 2 forks. Return to crockpot and add 2 cups of bbq sauce. Cook for another hour on low. Serve with additional sauce.
Makes about 12 sandwiches.
