This talk raises questions about the limits of "the single story." We have written and talked about "single stories" in our own experience. Below are some questions you should think about in relation to books. Be as specific and as detailed as you can in your responses:
1) According to Adichie, single stories limit our view of other people and diminish our openness to their humanity. "The problem with the single story is not that they are true, but that it is incomplete." Think of a time when you read a book that presented a view of the world different than your own.
How did you feel about the book's presentation? How did the presentation make you feel about your own world?
2) Have you read books that opened up for you another view of a group or a country? What were they? What was your experience of these books? How did they enlarge "the single story"?
3) What kind of "stories" would you like to read to expand your idea of the "single story?
