While watching the movie HATE, it was hard to pinpoint one thing that struck me the most, when everything struck me. The way they talked, the way they lived, the way they treated people. It was all new and weird. But one thing that stands out the post is that the movie is in black and white. They had the technology to make the movie into color but choose not to. I think it gave a whole different feel than if it was in color. The black and white could represent a lot of things, like how Vinz and Sayid only see the world in the black in white. They think all cops or “pigs” are bad and are out to get them. When a cop helps Sayid out, he is blown away that there are cops who don’t hate him. Another reason it could be in black and white is that the directors wanted you to focus mainly on the actions and words of the people, and not be distracted.
After reading and watching two stories of youth in the projects of Paris, it is safe to say that most people in their place are messed up. They have problems are home or with the police and don’t have the resources to deal with it. But it also showed that living in the projects is very different depending on what gender you are. Girls are mostly kept at home or only sent to school. But the guys get to roam around and have more freedom. It helped to see the projects from all backgrounds instead of just boys or just girls because it helps you fully understand characters in each story.
