Where your many memories lie, is where your true home is, no matter where you’ve been. This becomes evident in the play “Coming Home”, when Veronica returns home from Cape Town. She says, “It’s just so strange being back here, so many memories. This was mommy’s home when she was a little girl. In here” (pg4).saying this, Veronica stresses the fact that she finds it strange yet comforting to be back in her home after being gone and having gone to so many different places,. After all of her adventures in Cape Town she comes home to where she began with her Oupa. Her first night back after tucking her son Maneetjie, into bed she remembers the good times and the bad. This is stressed when she talks with her father’s spirit and he says “Memories child, it’s all memories... some of them will make you happy, some of them will make you sad” (pg37). When she has finally returned from her travels, veronica remembers how fun it was to give her father concerts when she was a younger girl. “I used to give Oupa concerts like that in here...his favorite songs were always the ones o used to make about him and his akkers...” (pg.30). By saying this Veronica subconsciously identifies her content to be at home, safe, where her memories are preserved.
