7010-S-EARLY LIFE

HIS EARLY YEARS

1893-1906

William Stephen was born on January 21st, 1893. He was the eldest child and only son of George and Olga King-Hall. Readers who are interested in learning more of his earlier life can consult the diaries of his father, George King-Hall. There are many references to him in the five sections of the GKH diaries covering the period from 1900 to 1911.

His early education was slightly unusual. After an initial attempt to give him a conventional English education at a preparatory school, Emsworth House, run by his father's youngest brother, Baldwin King-Hall, he was sent to an international school in Lausanne, Switzerland. From this Establishment he passed into the Royal Naval College, Osborne in January 1906.
