CORRESPONDENCE WITH SIR EVAN NEPEAN, SECRETARY TO THE ADMIRALTY.

Sir,

I beg permission to address you with these few lines enclosing my Certificates from the last Captain I served under which was Captain Fraser of the Beschermer I was but a very short time under his command, but if you think proper I shall enclose my Certificate from under Captain T Louis's hand of my good behaviour for five years servitude as Midshipman and Volunteer of the first Class. Also Captn Richard Lane's for eight months servitude on HMS Astrea. I was in the Action of the Nile in the Minotaur and on many Expeditions in that Ship. My Father was Gunner of that ship but was deceased on our arrival in England. Therefore I shall be humbly obliged to their Lordships any ****** they may think proper to do for me.

I am Sir, Your most obedient and humble Servant
