Robert (Bobby) Joseph Luck was born in 1932, Blayney and was known as Bobby Luck, a musical young man who enjoyed teaching, joined the Catholic order of De La Salle Brothers, was ordained 14 May 1949 and took the name Brother Cyprian.
One of his inspirations was Louis de La Salle was born on April 30, 1651 in Rheims, France. When Louis was 16 years old, he became a Canon of the Cathedral of Rheims, performing support for the archbishop among other duties. He was sent to the College des Bons Enfants, where he pursued the higher studies and on 10 July, 1669, took the degree of Master of Arts. When not occupied with the duties of his canonry or with his theological studies, he was engaged in good works, under the guidance of his spiritual director. In 1678, he was ordained a priest at age 27. Shortly after his ordination, de La Salle decided to create the community of the Brothers of the Christian Schools as well as develop schools for poor boys. De La Salle authored several books for his growing institute.
He was living for awhile at Smith Street, Blayney.
Robert Luck died aged 20 on the 9th. January 1953, the result of a motor cycle accident at the intersection of Stoney Creek Road and King Georges Road, Beverley Hills. At the time he lived at 33 Eden Street, Arncliffe.
By the time de La Salle died at the age of 67 on Good Friday, April 7, 1719, he had started “Christian Schools” in 21 French cities. Nearly 200 years after his death on May 24, 1900, John Baptist de La Salle was canonized by Pope Leo XIII. On May 15, 1950, Pope Piux XII proclaimed St. John Baptist de La Salle “Patron of All Educators of Children and Adolescents.”
