Spohn's Disposal Service performs trash, garbage and recycling pick-up in the Village of Ilion. Residents may use Ilion garbage bags or Sophn provided totes/carts.

If you choose to use Village of Ilion garbage bags, they are available at:
Rite Aid Pharmacy, Kinney Drugs, Cliff’s, Fastrac, True Value Hardware, Mirabito, and Greenies Corner

Tote/Cart System
Households that utilize Village garbage bags or the cart system for garbage/trash will also receive a cart for recyclables. Recyclables must be placed inside the cart loosely, with no plastic bags, string or twine. See reverse side for recycling guidelines. To use the tote/cart system, contact the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority via email at christine@ohswa.org or phone 351-733-1224 ext 2000 to arrange for the service.

Large Quantities of Trash
(This includes all construction and demolition material)
Call a private hauler to rent a dumpster when you need to dispose of large quantities of trash.
Small pieces of wood, lumber, or construction debris may be discarded using the Bag System or the Tote/Cart System. Brush and yard waste should not be discarded using the bag system or the garbage tote system.
Construction debris must be removed by the property owner by contacting a private hauler.
Rules and Schedules for Setting Out Garbage and Recyclables
Garbage, Trash and Recyclables Collection: Wednesday, Thursday & Friday Routes
Garbage should NOT be out before 3:00 PM the day before collection but SHOULD be out before 12:00 Midnight.
Garbage Bags SHOULD NOT EXCEED 50 pounds.
Empty carts or cans must be removed from the curbside by 8:00 PM on collection day.
If your garbage or recyclables are not collected, contact Spohn’s Disposal Service at (315) 866-8820.
Totes and Garbage cans must be stored in the rear of the property except during the allowed hours of the scheduled route day's collection
Bulk Item Disposal Collected Weekly [NOT BULK ITEMS: Wood, Lumber, Construction Debris, Plaster, Wall Board & Plywood]
Bulk items are defined as large household items (i.e., couch, chair, mattress, table, rug (rolled & tied), lamp, cabinet, dresser, etc.).
ONE bulk item per each single-family property may be put out on the same day as your garbage pick-up (i.e. dining table set of one table and four chairs equal five items, which will take five weeks to dispose). Multi-units (two family or greater) are allowed TWO bulk items per week.
Items must not be too large or heavy for two men to lift.
One bulk item, per each property, may be set out on the same day as your garbage pick-up) every week. Note - A dining room table and 4 chairs equates to 5 separate items, which will take 5 weeks to discard.
Do not set out a bulk item before 3 pm on the day of your pickup
Electronics, Major Appliances, Steel and Metal Items Collected Twice a Month
ms will be collected on the first and third Friday of each month.
These items need to be called in to Spohn’s Disposal Service at (315) 866-8820 in order to be put on a pick-up list. Please call before the collection day and state what needs to be picked up (i.e., computer, TV, washer, dryer, refrigerator, water heater, etc.) so that special collection arrangements can be made.

Green/Yard Waste Collection
Set out Sunday night for Monday pick-up starting in April and continuing through the second week of November. No container should exceed 50 pounds.
Green waste (grass clippings, leaves, garden waste and shrub clippings) must be placed in a reusable container only.
DO NOT place green waste in Plastic Bags.
Green waste should be free of stones, wood, paper, plastic pots/trays and animal waste.
Lumber and other construction debris IS NOT considered brush or yard waste.
Brush and shrubs cannot exceed four feet (4’) and must be placed in a reusable container or tied and bundled.
Christmas trees will be collected at the end of December and during the month of January.
Green/yard waste must be tied in bundles or placed in containers
Fall Leaf Collection
The Village of Ilion DPW will pick up leaves in the Fall. Leaves must be placed loose at the curb for collection. Scheduling and preparation for this service will be announced by the Village DPW. (November 1st – As long as weather permits.)
Special Items
Tires - Residents can deliver tires to the Authority’s EcoDrop Utica (80 Leland Ave Ext.) or contact a private hauler to have them removed.
Used Motor Oil - Take to a service station/oil redemption center or to the Authority’s EcoDrop Utica (80 Leland Ave Ext.)
