Bio: May Agnes Early was born November 15, 1840 in Carleton, New Brunswick, Canada. She married John Fleming, an engineer, in 1865 and the couple moved to New York. She was one of the first Canadian fiction-writers.
She published several serial tales in the New York Mercury and New York Weekly under the pseudonym, "Cousin May Carleton". Twenty-one of these serials were later printed in book form.
She and her husband had four children. She died in Brooklyn, New York on May 24, 1880, at the age of 39, of Bright's disease.
