Bio:
Ellen Warner Olney was born on 6 November 1842 in Southington Connecticut to Jesse Olney and Elizabeth Barnes. Ellen's father was a well-known geographer, educator, and textbook author. Her brother, A.S. Barnes, was a New York publisher. In 1879, she married John F. Kirk.
Ellen showed a love of literature and writing throughout her school career, but it wasn't until after her father's death in 1872 that she first attempted to have any of her works published. Her first novel, Love in Idleness, was published as a serial. This work brought her instant fame which she maintained throughout her career.
Ellen died in Philadelphia in 1928.
