Bio: Born 17 February 1817 to John William Ponsonby, 4th Earl of Bessborough and Lady Maria Fane. Her aunt was the Lady Caroline Lamb, who was also a novelist, but was most famously known for her affair with Lord Byron. Emily wrote a number of novels from 1858-1874, and most were published anonymously. She died, unmarried, on 3 February 1877.
