Bio: Katherine Cecil Madden was born in Cork, Ireland, on April 18, 1875. Her father, Paul Madden was a banker and sometime Mayor of Cork. By the time she was 15 she was a contributing author to several British publications.
In 1901, she married writer Ernest Temple Thurston, but they divorced in 1910 due to his adultery and desertion.
Katherine's novels achieved success in Britain and the United States. Her best known work was a political thriller, John Chilcote, M.P., published in 1904. Both it and her next book made the New York Times best seller lists.
Katherine died September 5, 1911 from an epileptic seizure in Cork, Ireland. She is buried in St Joseph's Cemetery, Cork.
