I’m sure you’ve heard of self driving cars. I mean it’s crazy how many people are using them nowadays. Some people even think it could be the new normal. I am not one of those people. Self driving cars should not be the new normal, and I’m going to tell you why.
First of all, self driving cars can be dangerous. These cars are new technology. What if they malfunction? Anyone in the car, in cars around you, or people on the street, could be hurt. The car could go in a spiraling disaster of destruction. Who would be able to fix that?
I know that a self driving car could also prevent accidents from happening. I know that some people text while driving and pay attention to other things. A self driving car would help with that. But what about responsible drivers? What if their car malfunctions for no good reason, hurting a lot of people?
Second of all, people have jobs. Lots of those jobs could be poofed into thin air and workers won't be able to provide for their family. I understand that self driving cars could open up new job possibilities. Unfortunately, qualifications for these jobs are pretty much unknown. It would be a very hard time for a lot of people.
Lastly, anyone could drive. Literally anyone could drive if they have a key. Imagine you have your self driving car and you leave it outside. Then, at any time your child could just unlock your car and take a drive in it. A 9 year old, driving a car! I fear for that child's safety and others around that child. Said kid could go anywhere they want to. And you would have no idea.
Thank you for listening to my opinions on why self driving cars should not be the new normal. I hope you take them into consideration.
