My class is having some trouble connecting with each other because so many people have their camera off! How can I make this classroom experience work?

Dear Trying to Connect Classmate,

I’ve been having the same problem! One day it got so bad that there were only two other people on camera other than myself. Just know that we want to respect other people and if they really only feel comfortable with their cameras off then that is fine, but we have to think about this as if it was a real school environment. Would we be able to just turn off our cameras in in-person school? I don’t think so. That is why we have to remember that it is easier for everyone to connect through actually seeing each other's faces.

Now to get to your question, try to make the best of this situation, maybe if you tell your friends or teachers about this you could tell them about what you are thinking and then maybe they could try to make an effort to put on their cameras. For now stay strong and know that by keeping your camera on you might be influencing the people around you to do the same.
