A Hot Spot is a warm-up. It generally focuses on a 'hot spot' - an area of weakness across the whole class. Generally, this is an area of Number Knowledge but could also have a Strategy or Strand focus as well.

These activities vary regularly and could be:

• a new game;
• a differentiated Number Knowledge activity (see the book below);
• a whole-class problem to solve in groups or pairs;
• choral counting.
