RATIONALE
The school has the responsibility to report clearly and objectively to parents/caregivers on the progress of their child/ren at Southland Adventist Christian School. Parents and caregivers should have the opportunity to discuss their child's/children’s school progress with teachers.
PURPOSE
To create a reporting process that supports and enhances children’s learning
To have an open and honest process that accurately informs parents/caregivers of student progress and achievement
To reflect each individual child’s learning progress and inform parents and caregivers where their child is in the learning process
To further develop open two-way communication between home and school and to facilitate and expand this most valued dialogue
To acknowledge and value parent input into this process (parents' knowledge of their children is valued)
GUIDELINES
The school’s “Open Door” approach to parents is used to encourage parents/caregivers to make contact/arrange an appointment with the class teachers to discuss any concerns relating to a child’s progress at any time during the year.
Staff members will contact parents/caregivers when they have a concern relating to a child’s progress, outside the “formal” reporting times.
There are two formal written reports that a child will receive during the year
Mid-Year Report - a shortened report that provides a snapshot of the learning progress the student has made to-date
End of Year Report - a full written report that summarises the learning for the year
Formal interviews will be held twice yearly. The protocols for these interviews are as follows:
2 interviews per student per year - one early in Term 1 to set goals for the year; one in the middle of the year to review progress
Parents are to book interviews through the Skool Loop app or via contacting the Principal directly
It is the responsibility of the teacher to follow up with any parents who miss the interviews
Interviews should be a formal, in-class discussion
15 minutes per interview per child
Whether the student attends will be up to the discretion of the teacher and parent
Guidelines for Writing Reports
Reporting practices and standards are consistent throughout the school
Reports describe each child’s attitude, progress and achievement in relation to the Curriculum
Reports are positive, constructive and balanced
An opportunity for parents to meet teachers, share learning goals and outline the classroom programme, will be provided early in the school year
