Rationale
As ambassadors of Christ the students at Southland Adventist Christian School are encouraged to do all they do to the best of their ability and for the glory of God. For this reason the school uniform is to be worn appropriately by pupils attending the school.
Purposes
To represent the school in a way that adorns the name of Christ and Christian in the community
To assist the development of a sense of community
To assist with ease of identification when out of the school
Uniform Expectations
Students are required to wear full regulation uniform. If there is a valid reason for wearing a non-regulation item of uniform, the student must provide a signed note from their parent to the class teacher or Principal. Inspections will take place regularly. Students are required to take pride in their appearance and uphold the uniform standard required by the School Board. At all times when the school uniform is worn, it must be the full regulation uniform. Teachers will specify the uniform appropriate for individual excursions.
Guidelines
Jewellery:
Except for wrist watches, medic alert bracelets and ear studs for girls, jewellery must NOT be worn at school. Hair ties must match school colours.
Hair:
No colours or excess products are acceptable. Hair should be kept clean and tidy at all times. Hair clips and ties should be of school colours only, eg. navy or white only. Hair should be tied back if longer than shoulder length to help prevent the spread of headlice.
If the teachers have a concern with a hairstyle, they will make contact with the parents and there is an expectation that the problem will be resolved.
Beanies, Gloves & Scarves:
Beanies, gloves and scarves may be worn but they should be of school colours only and not contain logos. These must be taken off when inside. Due to health and safety reasons scarves are not to be worn in the classroom.
Skort Length:
Length must be below the knee cap.
Black Lace Up Shoes:
All students wear black, leather shoes. Different styles are accepted provided they are black, leather school shoes with no other colours on them and are not trainers or sports shoes. Lace up shoes are required for technology for Year 7 & 8 students.
Summer Sandals:
Roman sandals are an optional footwear for summer. If your child has specific footwear requirements they are able to wear therapeutically approved sandals provided a note is sent from home.
Sports Uniform:
Sports polo shirt and shorts are to be worn each time the children participate in sport activities.
Underwear:
White or skin colour underwear must be worn under white shirts.
Makeup:
No makeup is to be worn to school.
School Hats:
The school uniform sun hat is to be worn during the two summer terms.
Consequences for Incorrect Uniform
Students not wearing full uniform are in breach of the Southland Adventist Christian School Student Uniform Procedure. Parent advice in regards to non-uniform is essential and must be provided in every instance. If students come to school in incorrect uniform the following actions take place:
1. Blue slip is given to student to take home.
2. Continued incorrect uniform and the principal will contact parents.
Possible consequences a student may receive include:
• Students without a school hat must stay in an undercover area.
• Students with extra jewellery will be asked to remove it. The student can collect confiscated jewellery after school. Jewellery confiscated for a third time is to be collected by the parent from the office.
• Refusal to wear school uniform will be deemed as student refusal to follow instructions and may result in suspension and/or referral to Principal.
• Students who wear incorrect uniform may be excluded from some practical activities / a class due to Workplace Health and Safety concerns e.g. closed-in shoes.
• Students with a poor record of full school uniform may be ineligible to represent the school in sporting and academic events and attend school/class excursions or gain a Senior or Representative badge.
