All children will be classified a year level upon their enrolment at school.
Upon enrolment, children who are five and start during Term 1, will be classified as Year 1; upon enrolment; children who are five and start during Terms 2-4, will be classified as Year 0’s (new entrants).
Parents of hildren who are born in April/May, will be welcome to arrange a time to discuss the need or otherwise for reclassification with the Principal.
In considering whether a child should be reclassified, the following factors will need to be taken into consideration:
the contribution and opinion of the child’s parents
academic status - how is the child progressing with reference to the school’s expectations of students. (Reference will be made to the New Zealand Curriculum level)
social status - how is the child relating to others, both in the playground and in the classroom?
While the Principal and Classroom Teacher will present data relevant to academic and social status, and in doing so may offer an opinion, the request of the parent/s will direct the decision as to reclassify or not.
Parents of students who are enrolled at our school after their fifth birthday, and whose classification from their previous school does not conform with these guidelines, will be offered the opportunity to have their child reclassified based on the factors as outlined in point 4.
