GUIDELINES for TEACHERS
Teachers will:
Be encouraged to compliment classroom teaching with EOTC experiences
Be familiar with the school’s EOTC Risk Management procedures and respect privacy protocols when applicable.
Plan EOTC excursions and consult with the Principal at the earliest stage - the Principal is responsible for ensuring all procedural and School Board requirements have been followed.
Be encouraged to attend training courses where necessary
Ensure that the First Aid Kit held in The Hub is complete and taken on all school trips
A list of hazards is to be included in the EOTC report
Apply standard school rules plus specific rules appropriate to each activity. Students may be withdrawn before or during the activity for safety or discipline reasons
Teachers planning a school trip of any nature must prepare an EOTC report for the Principal and this proposal must be approved by the School Board with the appropriate signatures of either the Principal and Presiding Member/Health & Safety Officer according to the Board's Delegation of Authority
All school excursions involving high risk, water, overnight camps and any outside the Invercargill area must have prior signed approval of the School Board and must be presented for due consideration within an appropriate time frame
Parents/Caregivers will be given adequate notice of trips via any/or all of the following: meetings, newsletters, or telephone
Permission slips must be completed and signed by the parent/caregiver and returned to the school prior to the trip. Incomplete or unsigned slips will mean the student will be unable to go on the trip
Staff expenses incurred while on a school trip will be reimbursed within reason
Staff may apply for the daily allowances as outlined in the applicable Collective Agreement
At least one female and one male supervisor will be required if students of mixed gender are included
Where overnight accommodation is required, supervised sleeping arrangements must respect gender privacy.
EVALUATION AND REVIEW
Class camps and major trips may be evaluated via a questionnaire of those involved e.g. staff, supervisors and students for the purpose of reviewing the activity for future use. Any major incidents must be reported to the Principal.
DOCUMENTATION
All the necessary documentation to be used for all EOTC events is contained on the school Google Drive. Please note that not all the documentation is necessary for every event and staff should use the correct documentation to suit the event.
REPORTING TO THE SCHOOL BOARD
The School Board will, at the beginning of each year, give approval to the Principal to sign off any local trips and this will be minuted in the Delegation of Authority list
The School Board reserves the right of refusal if the proposal is not in the best interest of the students, parents or school finances
