The black wheel on the drill allows you to set the depth that the drill bit can go down to.Â
Use a 5mm drill bit and set the depth to 11mm
Hold the wood firmly with your left hand
Lower the drill to the maximum depth it will go to to drill an accurate hole for your brass inserts.

Use a wooden mallet to force the brass insert into the hole you have drilled. This should be a firm hit, not and really hard hit as you risk injury or damaging something. The screw inside the brass insert acts like a target to help make this job easier.
