Laser Cutting is very different to cutting materials by hand.
During your previous lessons, you used the CAD software Tinkercad. You should have presented some images of your 3D model shape on the DT page of your website to show what you did.
Today you will look at the laser cut outcome of that lesson. You should take pictures of it and annotate (label) them to describe and explain the laser cut piece. Try to make comparisons to your hand-cut piece.
You will be using Plywood, which is a type of manufactured board. It is suitable for this project because it is available in flat sheets, it is cheap to buy, it has a smooth surface finish and no imperfections i.e. no knots like natural wood. Your teacher will show you some Plywood and during this lesson you should cut, shape and sand the material. Use the shape you drew in TinkerCAD last lesson as your template.
Take photo’s of what you make and insert them on this page. Add some words to this page to describe the material and explain how you shaped it
(At School) Design a simple shape with a mix of curves and angled edges. Use a coping saw to cut it out.
(At Home) Use the same shape and draw it on different types of cardboard - try to use thin card, medium and thick cardboard and note the differences in the quality of the cut once you use scissors to cut it out.
Are the edges just as neat on the thick cardboard as the thin card?
