Introduction the Leading
Now that you have planned your STEM activity or session, in this session we will be looking at some of the key skills you will need in order to lead what you have planned.
In particular we’ll focus on how to:
1: Communicate effectively
2: Be well organised
Communication
Verbal communication
giving clear instructions
use of terminology
pitch and tone of voice
volume and projection
Non-verbal communication
where you stand
eye contact
body language
gestures (e.g. thumbs up)
Organisation
Mirror Drawing
Player A draws a picture, pattern or random shapes, ensuring player B doesn’t see,
Player A will then describe their drawing, so that player B can draw an exact replica, just by following their verbal instructions,
After a set time, the two learners can compare their pictures to see how successfully the instructions were given and interpreted.
Which communication methods were used during the activity?
What did you learn about communicating with others?
How will you use this knowledge when you lead others?
