Build a design to carry your rambutan along the zipline!
It should travel smooth and steady all the way to the end.
Luckily for you, your cable car only needs to travel downwards.
Keep your design simple but strong enough for a fast ride.
Our STEM Challenge builds on the idea of the 200 Years of Rugby Global Pass... and turns it into a rambutan zipline extravaganza!
Now that you are responsible for carrying a rambutan on to the next person, you will need to create a mode of transport in the form of a rambu-hang. Think of it like a cable car that can carry your rambutan form point A to point B.
You goal is to build a cable car that can travel along your zipline faster than the cable cars from the other Houses!
Each house will compete with each other and each house will have their own teams and own responsibilities. House are allowed to build more than one cable car.
Teams of 4. You may have more than 1 team but no more than 4 people in each team.
Since you have a few different teams, some teams will build the cable cars and some teams will set up their ziplines. Yes, that's right, you can choose where to tie your zipline in school... longer the better!
Remember that the more cable cars your teams can build and the more ziplines you have, the better the chances are for at least one of your cable cars to succeed.
You will then submit one one result from the best cable car
Each cable car can only be tested once.

Rambutan is a medium-sized tropical tree in the family Sapindaceae. The name also refers to the edible fruit produced by this tree. The rambutan is native to Southeast Asia. It is closely related to several other edible tropical fruits including the lychee, longan, pulasan and guinep.
Use only wood and cardboard.
Stick with either hot glue of masking tape.
Cable cars should be able to hook on and off the zipline without having to unntie and tie the line.
Each cable car should be able to carry a rambutan that can be put in and taken out at the start and finish of the zipline.
Each cable car should be colour coded to match your House.
Preparation of parts.
Cutters.
Assembly.
Quality check and finishing of parts. this means that would should be cut not snapped. Wood should be sanded. Cardboard and wood should be cut to the correct size as measured.
Distance travelled
Speed
Safety of the rambutan
Teamwork/ efficiency showing how well you worked together and how quickly you were able to finish each cable car.
You may use any of the following materials to build your rambutan cable car. Remember you should only have 1 cable car in your group and that it needs to be big enough to transport 1 rambutan from the start of the zipline, to the end.
Lollipop Sticks
Scrap Wood
Cardboard
You may use the follow tools or equipment. Hot glue should be used to assemble your parts and hold it together. Scrolls saws and junior hacksaws can be used to cut or shape your wood so that it is the right size but don't forget to finish the wood with sandpaper so there are no sharp edges.
Hot Glue Guns
Scroll Saws
Sandpaper
Junior Hacksaw
LEGO is not allowed but you can get an idea for the typoe of shape that might be useful.
Keep in mind that the car has to carry a rambutan inside. You also need to take it out easily at the end.
make sure your hook is strong enough and that it attaches to the zipline securely.
This looks like a great car design that allows you to easily put the rambutan in and easily take it out
If your cable car travels too fast down the zipline and you do not secure your rambutan inside safely, you could lose it when it falls out!
Don't over build your cable car, you only need to carry one rambutan.
Trying to attach your cable car with a straw would mean you need to untie and thread the zipline through the straw and then tie it back.
This is not allowed!
Tubes or straws are not allowed when attaching the cable car to the zipline as you cannot put it on or take it off easily.
This is not allowed!
Imagine this hook upside down... Cutting your own wooden hook shape would allow you to easily put on and take off your cable car from the zipline.
Marking out a hook shape on a piece of wood and cutting it out on the scroll saw would be the best solution. Don't forget to sand it after so that it can slide smoothly.
