Now that you have produced a range of Initial Design Ideas, you need to do a little research into the type of material that you will use. It has already been stated that you will be using a type of plastic that is called Acrylic. This is classed as a Thermoplastic. You can also choose a suitable timber.
There are 2 main families of plastic, Thermoplastics (as stated above) and Thermosetting plastics. These 2 ‘families’ are determined by their properties and reactions to heat. Thermosetting plastics, are less common, cannot be reheated or moulded and typically give off poisonous, toxic fumes when heated. Products made from thermosetting plastics include light switches and plug sockets.
