You are going to use a 3D modelling web app to make a 3D file of your torch design. Insert an image or images of your 3D model onto your digital portfolio.Â
You should also present this as a diary taking images as you go along to share how you modelled your 3D torch. You should use a layout app like Procreate. Your teacher will show you an example.

Computer Aided Design is the process of using a computer to help you design a digital model. You will now use the online app called Onshape to draw your torch in 3D. This will allow you to then use the file to manufacture using the laser cutter. See the 3D model below and scan the QR to see it in front of you using AR.
The first stage of starting your 3D CAD is creating an Onshape account so you can use the onshape design program.
Follow the video carefully to set up your education subscription account and to learn how to log in to Onshape.
Once you have set up your onshape account, the next stage is to make a copy of the torch file that you will edit to match your design. You will also need to share your file with your teacher. We will use this file to make your torch layers on the laser cutter. This video will guide you through the process.
This stage of modelling your torch requires you to draw the top view of your torch including the detail of all 3 layers on the plane called 'sketch on me'. This video will guide you through the process in the browser version of onshape.
This stage of modelling your torch requires you to draw the top view of your torch including the detail of all 3 layers on the plane called 'sketch on me'. This video will guide you through the process in the ipad app version of onshape.
During this phase of work, you will learn how to use an already sketched shape and the extrude feature to subtract material from the basic rectangular model.
If you are using the Onshape app on an ipad, this video shows you how you can view your design work at the same time as modelling in Onshape by using the split screen view on the ipad.
This video will show you how to return to and edit a sketch that you have already started.
This video will show you how to use the mirror tool when sketching to make a symmetrical design
