MSD: Design Brief + Design Restrictions

Design Brief: 

Central department store, Pattaya would like to introduce a new line of soap products to be sold on the top floor of the store, including a soap dish and a soap. You are required to design and make a soap dish that can be used to allow soap and water to drain after someone has washed their hands and create a complimentary soap to accompany it. You can also design you soap dish to have additional features such as holes to hold a toothbrush, for example.

A bathroom is an ideal location for a soap dish however you can choose where you would like to design for, including to design for a family bathroom, a boarding house or for another suitable location of your choice such as next to the kitchen sink.

Design Restrictions:

Design restrictions are the things that you are not allowed to do and are set to make solving the design problem easier for you. They act just like guidelines to help you.

Your design restrictions are:

• You must start with the base design as a template and you must work within the size limit staying within the boundaries 

• You must use the materials provided - Untreated softwood measuring 10mm (width), 10mm (height) and 65mm (length), Wooden dowel 100mm (length), Plastic from the 3D printer and 6mm Plastic spacers.

• Include design features that allow your soap dish to be modular

• You must “finish” your soap dish to protect the material

• You must consider the soap style and packaging that would be most appropriate to go with your soap dish so it could be sold in a shop
