Rendering is really important to to make your design look good.
You will need to draw with light pencil lines to sketch out your design.
Use colour to create tone and shadow - always start with light tones before medium tones and then finish with the dark tones.
Use a fine line pen to draw in the outlines. These lines should be very neat and should be drawn with a continuous/solid line.
The orange shapes show a full range of light, medium and dark tones.
The shape on the right side is missing the dark tones.
The fine line pen has been used to create continuous lines that are smooth and neat. They help restructure the shapes.
Render in the following order:
Light base tone
Neat dark edges
Middle blending tones
Blend soft tones between the dark edges and light base tone. This will improved the quality of your work if done accurately.
Make sure you look back at your inspiration board for ideas and so that you stay on theme. If your inspiration board has photos of animals and farms, then your designs should be related to animals and farms too.
Working carefully and slowly will always give good results.
Sketch with soft ghost lines
Fine line neatly
Render with colours to blend tones.
Make your designs large and clear so you can add detail.
Neat work always looks great. Try your best and take your time.
Designs are very neat but also very simple! The bottom design also does not have a solid base.
The bottom design is missing the fine line pen outlines around the flowers. This means the rendering is not yet finished.
The designs also do not show the 3 levels of tone - light, medium and dark tones!
Excellent shading - light, medium and dark tones have been rendered very well but the fine line pen has not been used for all parts of the design and is therefore unfinished!
If rendering is rushed then the colour does not look neat and the fine line outlines do not look accurate - edges do not meet, lines overlap and lines are made up of separate sections.
Using your iPad to check your inspiration board is a great idea.
Using a ruler can help you draw perfectly straight lines.
You created an inspiration board in Step 3.
Neat fine line outlines, Great shading showing light, medium and dark tones.
Renderings have been presented nicely and designs are clear.
These 2 designs have not ben finished but you can easily see how neat the fine lining is.
