Step 1. Design the main shape and its 3D features
Step 2. Design the second main shape and its 3D features.
Step 3. Design the hands on both sides.
Step 4. Grouping shapes
Step 5. Exporting your design
Step 6. Take screenshots of your work + Keynote
At the end of step 1 you should have completed the first main shape.
This should mostly be a solid shape with some added 3D designs and features on top of it.
At the end of step 2 you should have completed the other main shape on the bottom of your model.
This should mostly be a solid shape with some added 3D designs and features on top of it.
At the end of step 3 you should have completed both hands and added any accessories like swords, handbags or anything else the hand may be holding.
It will help if you pause the video as you watch it to complete each stage.
This video will teach you how to change the shape and size of your shapes. It will also show how to copy and duplicate a shape.
This video shows you some of the things you need to check and be aware of before you export and print your 3D model.
It is easy to miss a mistake so make sure you pay attention and check your work in the same way.
This is wrong because the main shape - the head isn't solid. That means the features inside the face like the 2 eyes and nose will fall out after we 3D print them. This happens because they are separate pieces and not connected to anything.
Another mistake - Look at the hair style carefully (in the middle at the top). There is one piece of hair that is not touching the main shape. This will fall off too. Correct it or delete it.
This would be great at the end of Step 1. The main shape/head is solid and ready for the features to be added.
Follow Step 1 to do this correctly.
The main shape is solid = Good
The left eye and mouth are good. They are open but they do not have any loose parts.
The right eye has a shape inside it. The inside shape is not connected to anything and will fall out when we 3D print. This loose part should be redesigned or deleted.
Solid main shape = Good
The 2 eyes and mouth are added features (from Step 2). They are raised up and stick out like a real 3D model. They are stuck to the main shape and will 3D print correctly.
Follow Step 2 to do this correctly.
You must make sure that the green piece and your new blue piece are touching. This is important because the 3D printer must print these parts as 1 piece. If there is a gap (like you can see in the image above) you will have 2 separate pieces that fall apart when you 3D print.
You will need to select your blue design and move it very carefully until it touches and it is level with your green piece.
The green and blue pieces are touching and there is no gap between them.
This is also important if you add extra features like eyes, ears, hair or hats. If they are not touching your main shape, then the 3D print will not work properly.
Make sure you check all added parts and features carefully. NO GAPS
