These are your first sketches to solve the problem that you have been set.
Initial Design Ideas should be quick sketches that transfer the ideas from your brain onto the paper.
Your initial Design Ideas should be presented using the techniques previously learned in D&T lessons.
Note that in the example below, the switch position and holes for the screws are clearly shown.
Sketch out your Initial Design Ideas on paper. Clearly show where the switch position, design feature and holes for the screws are located. At the end of each lesson, photograph your work and add it to your digital portfolio to show evidence of your progress each lesson.
See the Working Drawing for the position of the switch / coin cell battery and screw holes.Â

Goode selection of ideas. All draw inside a rectangular crate. Very neat fine lining and a good attempt to blend colour when rendering. 13 designs in total
Sketch crates for each design so that you can be consistent with size and scale as you create multiple design on one page. Remember to only use a maximum of 3 colours as there are only 3 layers of acrylic.
Initial design ideas have been drawn within crates that are all of a similar size. Sketch lines show be softer but fine lining is good.
Sketch lines are soft and light but stronger/darker fine lining is needed around the designs before rendering.
Ghost lines should be sketches light enough that you can barely see them.
