Chapter 4

Stanley arrives at Camp Green Lake after sitting on the bus for over 8 hours. He describes Camp Green Lake as an infertile and bare place with some tents and poorly built buildings. Stanley is led into a small building where he met Mr Sir who sat with a bag of sunflower seeds beside him due to him quitting smoking a month prior. Stanley was forced to remove his clothing in front of Mr Sir to make sure he was not hiding anything, and was given two sets of clothes and a towel. Mr Sir explains the rules and regulations of Camp Green Lake. Stanley was ordered to dig a hole per day, measuring five feet in depth as well as five feet in width. Stanley's bag was searched and he was allowed to keep it with him. He was led outside where Mr Sir pointed out that there was no security precautions around the perimeter of the camp. If Stanley were to run away, he would not be stopped, however, he would most likely not make it far, because the camp was the only water source for over one hundred miles.
