Chapter 13

Names: Heather Kane, Chloe Wood and Christina Parolis

Stanley felt that the holes that he dug got harder each day and wondered if it got colder in the winter. Holding the shovel didn't hurt anymore because his hands have gotten tougher. While Stanley was digging he came across a shiny gold tube in the ground and after washing it with some of his precious water, he found an engraved design on the bottom. As Stanley examined further, he found the initials 'KB' engraved in a heart on the closed end. He tried to think of a way to avoid giving the gold tube to X-ray and go straight to the warden, but because he had never seen the warden before, he was terrified of him/her. Zig-zag noticed the gold tube in Stanley's hand and asked what it was, but instead of answering, Stanley went to show X-ray. The other diggers gathered around and all tried to guess what it was. X-ray said he would go and show the tube to Mr Pendanski, but Stanley suggested that X-ray should finish his hole first and say that he found the tube early the next day. X-ray agreed and when the water truck arrived, Stanley was told to move up one place in the line.
