Stanley is still receiving punishment from Mr. Sir since he is refusing to fill up Stanley's canteen. Stanley does get water from Mr. Pendanski. The boys make fun of Stanley because he is sitting around while Zero digs his hole since he and Zero made an agreement that if Stanley taught Zero to read and write Zero would dig some of his hole. Mr. Sir finally gives Stanley water but takes it inside his truck so Stanley distrusts him and pours it out. Stanley teaches Zero how to write his name, Stanley finds out Zeros name is, Hector Zeroni.
