Stanley was angry at everyone and himself for being too lazy to dig his own hole. If he hadn't, Zero may still be there. He had to dig Zero’s hole on his own, but he felt he deserved it. He thought about going after Zero, because no one would be able to catch him. Though if Zero weren’t already dead he’d probably die trying to find him. On top of that he could see no way of getting back to camp without being severely punished. The next day Stanley wondered if Zero had found god’s thumb and survived. When he got back to the dorm after digging the wardens asked if he’d seen Zero, to which he replied no, and after much deliberation, they decided to delete Zero’s files. They all thought he had no one to come looking for him.
