Chapter 21

Stanley took a lengthy walk in the scorching heat and gazed at the boys digging, knowing he would be the last person in the dried lake in hope that he would've completed before Mr. Sir recovered. He didn't want to be left alone with Mr. Sir. The Warden's words ringing in the back of his head, he cleared his head with the thoughts of his great-grandfather, the pig stealer's son, who had been robbed by Kissin' Kate Barlow. Stanley's great grand-father was abandoned in the desert, and while thought about it he seemed to be in a similar situation. Kate left his great-grandfather, and he was left by the Warden to face Mr Sir. Stanley's great-grandfather was rescued by rattlesnake hunters but he managed to pull through for seventeen days. Although, he was psychologically ill and replied with "found refuge in God's thumb" when people asked him how he had survived and ended up spending around one month in a hospital, and married a nurse, nobody ever understood what he meant. Stanley halted with his one leg still in the air when he came across a trembling sound, he peered down noticing a rattlesnake. He backed his leg and sprinted, the snake warning him to stay away by rattling its tail. Stanley mumbled a quick thank you to the snake for the warning. When Stanley eventually went back to his hole, the boys immediately wanted to be filled in on the situation that took place in the Warden's office. He informed them that he took ownership for stealing the seeds, everyone looked pleased. They went on to ask if anything else had happened, he simply replied that the Warned was displeased with Mr. Sir deciding against saying anything specific. He walked over to his hole in shock that it was almost complete. He grinned and thanked the other boys, he was confused when X - Ray claimed it was not him. He gazed around and realised that it was Zero.
