Chapter 38

Stanley hoisted Zero over his broad shoulder and began carrying him up the mountain. The vines and weeds that covered the steep hill made it very difficult for Stanley to walk so he had to be more careful with every step. As Stanley hiked upwards he began to smell something vial and bitter. Stanley looked ahead to see a rock that seemed to enlarge with every step he took, then he realised that rock was not shaped like a thumb. As Stanley got distracted he tripped forwards and Zero fell into an area of mud, Stanley felt hopeless until he realised that if there was mud surely there is water. Stanley dug a hole into the mud and while some water appeared he felt a round, smooth object, too smooth to be a rock, as he lifted it he realised that it was an onion. Stanley ate half of it and when he gave the other to Zero he told him it was a ´hot fudge sundae´.
