Stanley mentioned that it was much hotter that day than it usually was. There was a storm that was West beyond the mountains. The boys wanted it to rain on them so they could swim, as a joke. When the lightning hit, Stanley saw an unusual rock in the distance. It looked like a fist with a thumb pointing upwards. It reminded him of what his great-great grandfather said when he was robbed by Kate Barlow; I found refuge on god's thumb. He was then taken to hospital and ended up falling in love with a nurse. Stanley then realised that the rock looked like lightning came out of it.
